Questions, Answered:

Working with a Travel Advisor

  • Through our affiliation with Fora, we have relationships with thousands of hotels and other travel partners that allow us to secure the best experience for our clients — getting you perks like priority room upgrades, preferred rates, even spa and dining credits. It’s a great way to level up your travel experience.

By accessing the Fora network, we’re able to ensure you get the best of everything in just about any location on earth. We have access to crowd-sourced recommendations from thousands of expert travel advisors, detailed destination guides and resources, and specialist reviews to help us curate recommendations and itineraries where every hotel, tour guide, transportation company, and activity has been thoroughly vetted. Amazing experiences only, no duds.

  • The beauty of working with us is that you can be as involved in the planning as much or as little as you'd like. If you want to do the legwork and be more involved, no problem! You can still do the research and come to us when you’re ready to do the actual booking. We can add on the finishing touches (access to the upgrade, the free breakfast, or the rooms that adjoin) and make sure you're getting the best value.

Our planning fees are customized based on the nature of your trip. If all you need us for is hotel or cruise bookings or simple itineraries you’ve designed yourself, we typically won’t charge a fee.

  • The short answer: Just about everything! Through our booking portal we can search for, analyze, and reserve:

    • Hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals

    • Rental cars, airport transfers, private drivers, and some other transportation

    • Activities, tours, and guides

    • Package and all-inclusive travel

    • Cruises

    • Group travel, honeymoons, weddings, and retreats

    • Travel insurance

We can and do advise on flight itineraries, and incorporate those in detailed travel plans. However, we normally recommend clients book air travel directly — except for international business class travel, which we can arrange via our concierge flight booking partner.

  • Carefully crafted itineraries, unique experiences, travel perks, and luxe accommodations don’t have to break the bank. We’ve built our own fabulous travels on a nonprofit salary: flying economy, thinking twice about $700 hotel rooms, and weighing airfare and excursion costs carefully. That’s exactly why working with us makes sense — we know how to find affordable luxury at every turn. Whether it’s uncovering destinations that deliver incredible value or spotting the difference between overpriced and worth-it, we help travelers get the most out of their budget.

And for those who do love the finer things? We’ve got that covered, too. From overwater bungalows to black car transfers, we can plan with just as much style and polish as we do with savvy and savings.

  • No! Because hotel and travel partners value the clients that we bring to their properties, they pay us a commission to do just that — without passing it on to the customer. We still get competitive rates and better value for our clients due to our industry partnerships.

We do typically charge a separate planning fee for detailed itinerary planning and bespoke trips. But we hope you’ll agree this is a valuable investment in exchange for our expertise, hours of destination research to curate the perfect trip for you, support for bookings and liaising with vendors, providing guides and tips for your destination, and offering white-glove service every step of the way. You get what you pay for, and when you book with us, you get exceptional.

Also, consider the value of your time. If you have hours upon hours to do intensive planning to curate the perfect trip from start to finish, great! (We can still work together, by the way.) But in today’s increasingly complex travel landscape and with our increasingly busy lives, outsourcing all that work is just about priceless.

  • Working with us isn't a discount service, it's a value-add service. We will always work with hotel partners to get you the best rates and the best experience possible.

You might be able to find the cheapest room rate on Google or booking platforms, but did you know that room is right above the hotel nightclub and looks directly at a brick wall? And sometimes what might look like the cheapest rate is often not including taxes and fees that show up later in the booking.

By working with us, you'll have insight into all of these things to make sure your experience is the best it can be. And if the rate you've found online is in fact the best, we can also book that for you, while flagging you as a preferred VIP guest with the hotel directly.

By comparison, hotels and resorts usually place guests booked directly through third-party travel websites at the bottom of the priority list, and those sites and their impersonal call-centers won’t offer you exceptional customer service in the event of a booking change or travel hiccup.

  • Absolutely not. Alisha says: “For my personal travel, I’ve always been all about boutique hotels and resorts, fabulous vacation rentals, off-the-beaten path destinations, and hole-in-the-wall hidden gem restaurants. I’m not a big chain hotel and cookie-cutter vacation package gal, and I don’t think you need to be, either.”

Bespoke travel design is all about giving you the experience that speaks to you, and we place total emphasis on that — not on commission. That’s why we offer a commission offset of up to $150 against your booking fee — to ensure you get the service you deserve.

Fortunately, we have access to a wide range of properties from within our booking network, including many boutique properties we’ve stayed at (and loved!) over the years, and the ability to book that stunning villa or slick city apartment you’ve been longing for on VRBO.

No matter how you like to travel, we’ll get there together — your happiness is so much more important to us than our bottom line.

  • I know credit card travel perk programs offer things like $200 resort credits and free breakfast. But we'll let you in on a little secret: Booking with us means you're getting all the same perks, but you're prioritized for room upgrades before other customers.

Why? Because the travel industry is all about relationships, and ours go deep. The Fora team has decades of experience within the industry, and during that time they’ve built meaningful relationships with hotels around the world (4,500+ to be exact). And it doesn’t stop at upgrades. We have top-tier access to nearly every major preferred partner program including Four Seasons Preferred, Hilton Impresario, Hyatt Privé, IHG Luxury and Lifestyle and Virtuoso Travel.

We have long-standing, personal relationships with partners, hotel managers, and staff, which means we have a direct line to the places and people who take care of your stay. These personal relationships mean we can quickly and effectively address any issues or concerns that may arise during your trip and resolve them in real time. For instance, if your flight is delayed we can update your airport pick-up, adjust the time of your tour, and make sure you have a welcome drink waiting on arrival.

Booking with us means you’ll get the highest touch, personalized experience possible — triple confirming that your suite will be connected to your teenagers’ room next door or that a crib can fit next to the bed.

    Why does this matter?

Preferred partnerships aren't easy to get — these are selective, invitation-only programs cultivated by hotels to reward agencies who deliver consistent, high-quality clientele. What does this mean for you? Beyond getting priority ahead of regular Amex or Chase customers for room upgrades, when you book a hotel through us you‘ll be flagged as VIP guests prior to your arrival. Cue bespoke welcome amenities, hyper-personalized attention — and maybe even your favorite slice of cake from that little local bakery waiting in your room at turndown.

Don’t worry — you can still use points for things like flights, and continue earning by using the credit card you already use to earn them.
